How the density system works — and how to set it
On a variable-chamber baler, density is controlled by hydraulic pressure on the belt or chain tensioner arms (often through a nitrogen-charged accumulator or density cylinders). Turn the pressure up and the belts squeeze harder, so the bale comes out tighter and heavier. A tightly packed bale is full of stored spring energy — it wants to expand the instant the chamber opens. The net wrap is the only thing holding that energy in until you get the bale to the ground, the wrapper, or the stack. Push the density up and skimp on wraps, and the bale tells on you:
